The 61st Independence Day Parade could be described as a memorable display of national pride and unity. Among the enthusiastic participants was the Pathfinders contingent, under the leadership of Youth Ministries Director Ps Wayne Jeffrey.
The Independence Parade, held annually on August 31st, celebrates the nation's journey towards self-governance. It showcases its rich cultural heritage and diversity while uniting our people in a shared sense of patriotism. This year's parade was no exception, with the Pathfinders joining a colourful array of groups including military, law enforcement units and other groups.
The Independence Day parade in Trinidad and Tobago was distinguished by two remarkable milestones that reverberated with significance. President Christine Kangaloo, for the very first time, conducted the inspection of the parade, while Captain Kemba Hannays of the Air Guard assumed the role of the parade's first female commander. Our very own Pathfinders were on hand to add to the spirit of this annual event.
Preparations for this year's parade were described as intensive by Ps Wayne Jeffrey, who highlighted the commitment and dedication required to ensure that the Pathfinders could participate effectively. They had to be in place the night before, ready to assemble at the meeting point in the early hours of the morning. Ps Jeffrey expressed his admiration and gratitude for the efforts of the local zonal leaders who worked tirelessly to organize and coordinate the Pathfinders marching troupe. Their hard work was evident in the impeccable formation and discipline displayed by the youth contingent during the event.
