On October 26th, 2024, the Music Department of the South Caribbean Conference hosted a Holy Spirit led Hymn Fest at the Marabella Church. The event started with the Music Director, Deborah Ferreira, expressing gratitude for the attendees' patience as the program began later than planned. She emphasised the significance of hymns, stating, 'they tell stories, they tell of the joys, they tell of the struggles and trials that some of these folk went through...then somebody put music to it'. She reiterated that the music department aims to remind everyone of the purpose behind their singing and worship.
The evening was filled with fellowship and music as various groups led the congregation in singing a mix of new and old hymns. The Marabella Church praise team opened the program, followed by performances from multiple groups.
Online viewers were encouraged to share their favorite hymns, adding to the communal spirit of the event. Described as an amazing experience, the idea for the Hymn Fest originated from the recently conducted Music Workshop at Camp Balandra earlier this year.
Old hymns hold immense value for the church and worship of God by connecting generations through shared faith. They provide continuity, unite congregations, and offer rich theological truths. Hymns like "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" foster a deep spiritual connection and enhance worship with their poetic language and memorable melodies, enriching the overall worship experience.
